FAQ

Do Solatube daylight tunnels work in winter?

Yes. Solatube® Daylighting Systems are designed to deliver consistent interior light year-round, regardless of season or sunlight angle. They produce steady illumination even in low-angled winter light.

Do Solatube Daylighting tunnels need cleaning?

No. Solatube® systems are virtually maintenance-free thanks to sealed components that prevent bugs and dirt, and dome designs that eliminate debris buildup.

Will a Solatube Daylight Tunnel leak?

No. Solatube® systems use seamless flashing and seals that create a virtually leakproof system.

For more details, refer to the “Flashing” section in the Product Selection Guide.

Can Solatube Daylighting Systems tolerate very heavy rain?

Yes. The round dome shape and seamless flashing design allow water to flow off naturally, preventing leaks. Optional turret extensions or curb heights can further protect against runoff.

How long will a Solatube Daylight Tunnel last?

Solatube® systems are made with high-quality materials and come with a 10-year warranty. Many systems have performed well for over 20 years. Certain models also meet hurricane, OSHA, and military standards.

Can you turn off a Solatube Daylighting Tunnel?

Yes. The Solatube® Daylight Dimmer lets you adjust light from 100% to 2% using a wall switch. Available for both residential and commercial models, it can also be integrated into lighting control systems.

Is it difficult to install a Solatube Daylighting Tunnel?

No. Solatube® systems can be installed on nearly any roof type with a variety of mounting options. See our Product Selection Guides for more info.
