Yes. Solatube® Daylighting Systems are designed to deliver consistent interior light throughout the year, regardless of the season or angle of the sunlight.
Their optical technology captures low-angled winter light, helping to provide steady interior illumination even during the darker months.
Yes. The round dome shape and seamless flashing design allow rainwater to flow away naturally, helping to prevent water from entering the system.
Where additional protection from roof runoff is needed, optional turret extensions or appropriate curb heights can raise the dome above the roof surface.
Yes. Solatube® domes are engineered to capture low-angle light, making them particularly well suited to northern climates such as Scotland.
Solatube systems have provided effective daylighting in cold and cloudy regions for more than two decades. As with any installation, the amount of available light will vary with the weather, season, system configuration, and building.
Solatube® systems are virtually maintenance-free. Their sealed components help prevent bugs and dirt from entering the system, while the shape of the dome is designed to prevent debris from building up.
Solatube® systems are manufactured using high-quality materials and come with a 10-year warranty. Many systems have continued to perform effectively for more than 20 years.
Certain Solatube models are also designed to meet demanding hurricane, OSHA, and military standards. Refer to the documentation supplied with your particular product for its applicable warranty and certification details.
Solatube® Daylighting Systems use seamless flashing options and seals that, when correctly installed, create a virtually leakproof system.
For more information about selecting the correct flashing for your roof, refer to the Flashing section of the relevant Product Selection Guide.
Solatube® systems are designed to be installed on nearly any roof type, with a range of flashing and mounting options available for different applications.
Because installation requires an opening through the roof, you should use a suitably experienced installer unless you have the appropriate tools, knowledge, and confidence to complete the work safely.
Refer to the relevant Product Selection Guide and installation instructions before choosing or installing a system.
Solatube® Daylighting Systems can be installed in almost any building. They have been used in a wide variety of residential and commercial structures around the world.
The appropriate system and installation method will depend on factors such as roof type, tube length, ceiling construction, available routing space, and the amount of light required.
Yes. The Solatube® Daylight Dimmer allows you to adjust the amount of incoming daylight from 100% down to approximately 2% using a wall switch.
The dimmer is available for compatible residential and commercial systems and may also be integrated into suitable lighting control systems.
For residential installations, the approximate maximum light coverage is:
160 DS – 10 in. (250 mm)
Suitable for spaces measuring up to approximately 19 sq. m.
290 DS – 14 in. (350 mm)
Suitable for spaces measuring up to approximately 28 sq. m.
Actual light output will vary depending on factors such as tube length, tube configuration, ceiling height, geographic location, weather, season, and the intensity of the available sunlight.
Commercial projects: Please contact a Solatube commercial representative for a project-specific daylighting design.
